Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>President Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Saulos Chilima were at the War Memorial Tower in Lilongwe today to pay homage to soldiers who fought during the two World Wars.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, there was a moment of silence at exactly 11am in honor of the departed soldiers who died during the World Wars. Later on, Chakwera led the laying of wreaths at the foot of the Memorial Tower, followed by Vice President Rt.Hon. Saulos Klaus Chilima.<\/p>\n

Other officials who also laid wreaths include the Defence Force Commander, the Inspector General of Police, the Chief Justice of Malawi, Speaker on the National Assembly, representative of Leader of Opposition, Secretary to the President, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, the Mayor of Lilongwe City.<\/p>\n

Writing on his Facebook Page, Chakwera said the day accords people a chance to never forget the level of patriotism and dedicated service to national duty by those who lived in this land even before we became a Republic.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurthermore, we also observe this day in remembrance of all our soldiers who have died over the decades while rendering service in pursuit of peace in all parts of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is this sort of selfless conduct in the battlefield that motivates us all to dedicate to the Motherland undivided service.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay peace and dialogue be the currency through which we transact our national affairs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
