Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Malawi will double its pledge to the Global Fund from $500,000 during the 6th Replenishment to $1 million for the 7th Replenishment, President Lazarus Chakwera has said.<\/p>\n

The Malawi leader made the announcement Wednesday in New York, United States of America during the Global Fund Pledging Conference attended by global leaders, including the host, President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n

For the Seventh Replenishment, the Global Fund needs at least $18 billion which is the minimum required to get the world back on track toward ending HIV, TB and malaria, to build resilient and sustainable systems for health and strengthen pandemic preparedness, making the world more equitable and safer from future threats.<\/p>\n

Chakwera who is also the chairperson of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in the world says as a Global Fund Replenishment Champion, he has worked hand in hand with the Global Fund External Affairs Department to lobby for the replenishment at almost all the global and regional meetings he has attended.<\/p>\n

The Global Fund Grant to Malawi stands at $523.832 million and the Covid-19 Grant stands at $109.536 million in support of the fight against TB\/HIV, malaria and the Covid-19 pandemic under the biomedical interventions; community interventions; and building resilient and sustainable systems for health.<\/p>\n

The Global Fund\u2019s Seventh Replenishment is the world\u2019s opportunity to rise to the challenge and take bold action to protect everyone, everywhere from the deadliest infectious diseases.<\/p>\n

Global Fund\u2019s target is to raise at least US$18 billion and this is the minimum required to get the world back on track toward ending HIV, TB and malaria, to build resilient and sustainable systems for health and strengthen pandemic preparedness, making the world more equitable and safer from future threats.<\/p>\n

The Global Fund\u2019s Emergency Fund is designed to support countries when disasters, conflicts or other emergencies are impacting the provision of HIV, TB or malaria treatment and prevention or other health services.<\/p>\n
