Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers who will leave for the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in January next year have been urged to maintain discipline as they discharge their duties.<\/p>\n

MDF Chief of Staff, Major General, George Jaffu Jnr made the call at Chikala Forest in Machinga at a closure of 3 months pre deployment military training for the contingent that will soon travel to DRC for peace keeping.<\/p>\n

Major General Jaffu said MDF soldiers are known for discipline and there is need to maintain the reputation. He warned that whoever will not keep discipline will be withdrawn from the peacekeeping contingency.<\/p>\n

The Chief of Staff expressed hope that the peacekeeping team will maintain discipline in the DRC and that they will be dedicated to duty as has been the case since 2013.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you\u2019re in the DRC remember to keep discipline to maintain MDF\u2019s good image,\u201d he said. US Ambassador to Malawi, David Young, said he was impressed with the pre deployment training at Chikala forest.<\/p>\n

He said MDF soldier have a good record of discipline and dedication and expressed hope that they will work to ensure peace in the DRC. He pledged that the US will continue supporting MDF with pre deployment training and other peacekeeping programmes.<\/p>\n

British High Commissioner to Malawi, David Pert, also hailed the MDF for discipline and dedication to duty and further thanked the predeployment trainers for mentoring the contingent.<\/p>\n

Malawi will send 731 soldiers for the peacekeeping mission in the DRC in January 2023 and this will be the 14th time for Malawi to send peacekeeping mission to DRC under the support of the UN<\/p>\n
