Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Mzimba North Legislator Yeremia Chihana has presented to the Speaker of Parliament a document which, he says, shows that money was looted in this year\u2019s Affordable Inputs Program (AIP).<\/p>\n

Chihana had earlier claimed that he had evidence that K30 billion out of K188 billion budget for AIP was stolen. He was asked to take evidence to Parliament and today he presented his evidence to the speaker\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

Speaking to local media house MIJ Online, Chihana said the document he has presented to the Speaker show various transactions that were coming from Malawi to various food companies including Barkaat Food Limited which duped Government out of K750 million.<\/p>\n

Chihana also revealed that apart from Barkaat, money was also sent to another company called BOVA. \u201cThe transaction were suspicious as they were being given to food companies and not fertilizer making ones,\u201d Chihana told MIJ.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Lazarus Chakwera administration is struggling to recover K750 million which was paid to Barkaat Foods, a London based butchery which the Ministry of Agriculture claims had capacity to supply fertilizer.<\/p>\n

Commentators say the transaction was fraudulent and government officials involved should be prosecuted. Meanwhile, the AIP has commenced with government mostly relying on over 70,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer donated by Morocco and World Food Program.<\/p>\n
