Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Community members who are calling themselves \u201cfriends of South Lunzu Police\u201d have bought four new tyres and paid all the costs for maintenance of the Lunzu service motor vehicle which had mechanical faults, to the tune of 2 million Malawi Kwacha. The ceremonial handover of the motor vehicle happened on November 26,2022 at South Lunzu Police Unit premises.<\/p>\n

Looking at the terrain of South Lunzu Policing areas and condition of the motor vehicle, stakeholders requested the Officer In-Charge Senior Superintendent Patricia Njabiri and her management to allow them to service the vehicle for smooth running of police services in Machinjiri areas.<\/p>\n

According to Stakeholders forum representative, Mr George Nyirenda who handed over the vehicle to the Officer In-Charge, their committee realises the importance of security in the fast developing township of Machinjiri and they consulted the residents to contribute materially or financially to help the police operate effectively.<\/p>\n

George Nyirenda said they were overwhelmed by the positive response and continues urging stakeholders to understand how police officers work and their challenges.<\/p>\n

He assured the police of more material and financial support from them provided they are used for the intended purposes. \u201cWe have to joins hands with them because there is no development without security,\u201d Nyirenda added.<\/p>\n

Receiving the serviced land cruiser, the Officer In-Charge Senior Superintendent Patricia Njabiri, commended the kind gesture saying the committee is just one-month old since it\u2019s establishment but is already bearing fruits. She told them that the good condition of the vehicle will add value to their work through police visibility and responding in time to emergency calls.<\/p>\n

She then assured the participants and citizenry at large of tight security around the clock. Furthermore, she encouraged other stakeholders to emulate the initiatives implemented by \u201cFriends of South Lunzu Police\u201d which reflecting real Community ownership of Police structures.<\/p>\n

Also present at the function were, Group Village Headman Machinjiri, Community Policing Forum Chairperson Mrs Evelyn Katuma, Ndirande Police Community Policing Coordinator Inspector Sazalabika Zimba and business Community.<\/p>\n
