Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire has been mocked in Parliament in Ghana where a legislator described the country\u2019s Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as an \u201ceconomic Maguire\u201d who has destroyed the economy.<\/p>\n

Maguire became the subject of discussion when one Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, was contributing to a debate on the state of the economy on Wednesday, November 30.<\/p>\n

The legislator claimed that Maguire was regarded as the best defender in the world during his time at English Premier League side Leicester City as he was tackling opponents and throwing his body everywhere.<\/p>\n

According to the MP, when Manchester United bought Maguire for about \u00a380 million, he became the team\u2019s biggest weakness in defence as he was \u201ctackling his teammates and giving assists to his opponents.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen even the opponent failed to score, Maguire would score for them,\u201d said Adongo. He then likened Maguire\u2019s form to the Vice President\u2019s performance regarding Ghana\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Speaker, you remember in this country we also have an economic Maguire. This economic Maguire, we were clapping saying this man is the best in managing foreign currency.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe same economic Maguire was at Central University delivering lectures on how to restore the value of the Cedi [Ghana\u2019s currency]. Mr Speaker, when we gave this Maguire the opportunity to be at the centre of our defence, he became the risk of our own goal.\u201d Maguire is currently at the World Cup with England where he has featured in all of England\u2019s games and has been praised for his performances.<\/p>\n
