Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have slowed down their chase for Blue Eagles striker Gaddie Chirwa as the Lali Lubani side wants to consult before making a final decision.<\/p>\n

Wanderers\u2019 pursuit Chirwa hit a snag on Monday as Eagles pegged the forward at K15 million before reducing the fee to K9 million. Even when Wanderers raised their bid to K7 million from K3 million, the police side did not bulge.<\/p>\n

Wanderers spokesperson Clement Stambuli claimed that they had chickened out of transfer discussions that were set for last night. He cited exorbitant transfer fee as the main reason.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the first place, we did not even agree on the K7 million which Eagles claim that we proposed. Besides that, their valuation of K9 million is on the higher side.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us be honest, teams are financially struggling in this country and we should have strived to help develop the game through a win-win situation,\u201d Stambuli said.<\/p>\n

He said Eagles are sponsored by the government and not in business of selling players. \u201cSo we feel doing more consultations will do us good,\u201d Stambuli said. However, Eagles Vice General Secretary Solomon Mchawi said their valuation of the player still stands.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet Wanderers learn to run football professionally. There is no way they would set a selling price for a player who belongs to another team. We bought players like Brighton Munthali from Silver Strikers; do they know how much we spent on the player?\u201d Mchawi asked<\/p>\n

He said that Chirwa has two years left on his contract. \u201cDo they want him for peanuts?\u201d Mchawi questioned. Meanwhile, Chirwa\u2019s manager and brother, Sammy, was hopeful that all the parties would settle the issue amicably for the good of the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy client and brother deserves better, having stayed at Area 30 for three seasons. I believe these teams will reach an agreement for the betterment of the player,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chirwa scored 11 goals for Eagles in all competitions last season. However, having advised Eagles to open transfer talks with Wanderers, he also resigned from the Malawi Police Service.<\/p>\n

If the deal goes through, Chirwa will be the second player to leave the Area 30 side for Wanderers in a protracted transfer battle after Vitumbiko Kumwenda.<\/p>\n
