Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>A project that marries artistic elements such as film, fashion, photography and storytelling curated by the country\u2019s artists, led by model Keitumile Kawilima, is to be showcased at Tukutane Dar in Tanzania.<\/p>\n

Tukutane Dar is a premiere arts festival held in Dares Salaam in Tanzania and, this year, it runs from today through to February 5. The festival started in 2020 and is hosted by several art centres. Keitumile, who is in Tanzania alongside Penjani Munyenyembe, said Tuesday that they were excited to represent the country at the platform.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2022, a group of young Malawian artists, led by me and Penjani Munyenyembe, who we are with here, Gomezgani Nyirenda, Tonney Banda, Vincent Mdoro, Khumbolawo Mussa, Fumbani Chivwanga, Sibongile Zgambio, Ernest Chilenje and Kris Ngalu created yet to be released fashion film titled Black Boys Bloom: Kukolola together with accompanying photographs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Keitumile described the project as a piece of artistic aesthetical genius visually marrying film, fashion, photography and storytelling. \u201cUsing this curated body of work, we created a multimedia exhibition of photographic prints and screening of the film, which has been shortlisted as part of a premiere arts festival in Tanzania,\u201d the model said.<\/p>\n

He said as collective artists, they have been granted a production budget to take part in the five-day festival. \u201cWe will have life-sized printed photographs from the same project as the film Black Boys Bloom along with smaller prints being exhibited. We will also be exhibiting our old collaborative look book called Afropunk in the Woods and screening the film for the five days of the event,\u201d Keitumile said.<\/p>\n

He described Tukutane Dar as an international platform which will accord them a chance to exhibit their works at some of the best art centres in Dares Salaam.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur works will be seen by a wider and more diverse audience which will broaden our reach and influence as Malawian artists. We have the opportunity to network and rub shoulders with other great African artists delegated from other countries,\u201d Keitumile said.<\/p>\n

He said the platform was also all about exposure and development of their craft, adding that they were excited to have been granted a budget cover for the production of the entire exhibition. Last year, the model won the Katutura Fashion Week International Model of the Year during an event which took place in Namibia.<\/p>\n
