Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Veteran trumpeter Wallace Ngoma returned to Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre last Thursday at Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session, where he treated people to music vibes, reminding them of the exploits of late Bright Livewire Nkhata and Makasu Band.<\/p>\n

Despite attracting low patronage, the concert lived up to its billing, with Ngoma and his four-member crew giving their all. They performed a number of songs that included \u2018Muroyi\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cBright Livewire Nkhata and Makasu\u2019s songs will not die. As long as we are here, we will continue performing them during live performances,\u201d the trumpeter said. He also said they were looking for support to go back to the studio to rework on some of Nkhata and Makasu\u2019s songs.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the songs are on tapes but a lot has changed and, so, we need to re-record these songs and then put them online. The younger generation needs to listen to the songs and get to appreciate the works of Bright Nkhata and Makasu,\u201d Ngoma said.<\/p>\n

Nkhata died on August 2 2000. He then hailed JCC for giving him another opportunity to perform. \u201cIt is unfortunate that not many people came but I am happy that the few that came have enjoyed the sound.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought the songs would not appeal to them but we were wrong. We have been motivated to continue making strides and we are appealing to well-wishers out there to support us. We would want to tour and even go to the studio,\u201d Ngoma said.<\/p>\n

With JCC still looking for a home following the end of its rental agreement, host of the Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session ethno-musician Waliko Makhala said they would still run the event until April. Meanwhile, Sounds of Malawi will this coming Thursday host budding artist Bless Williams.<\/p>\n
