Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Minister of Local Government, Professor Blessings Chinsinga, has suggested that projects implemented through the collaboration of Malawi Scotland Partnership (MaSP) and Scotland Malawi Partnership (SMP) be aligned to the goals of the Malawi 2063 (MW 2063) Vision. Chinsinga said the move would significantly contribute towards achieving the country\u2019s long-term development blueprint.<\/p>\n

He spoke in Lilongwe during the 2022 Annual General Meeting of MaSP, which drew together scores of MaSP members, including outgoing SMP Chief Executive Officer David Hope Jones and Scottish Minister of Culture, Europe and International Development Neil Gray\u2014who participated virtually.<\/p>\n

MaSP and SMP partnership is an extension of the long existing bilateral relations between the governments of Malawi and Scotland, supporting Malawi in the areas of education, health, agriculture, climate justice, renewable energy and democratic governance.<\/p>\n

Chinsinga said the interventions in the areas of focus for the partnership are critical in terms of achieving the Malawi that is needed in the auspices of the MW 2063.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne key goal of the vision is to transform Malawi into an exclusively wealthy, self reliant and middle income industrialized country. That can only happen if people get out of poverty.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn MaSP and SMP partnership, Malawi has a huge opportunity to design projects that will get people out of poverty on a permanent basis,\u201d Chinsinga said.<\/p>\n

In the partnership, interventions are done through various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that are members of the two coordinating bodies\u2014MaSP and SMP\u2014in their respective countries.<\/p>\n

In her remarks, MaSP Board Chairperson, Dr. Ann Phoya, celebrated a litany of projects currently underway in Malawi, implemented through MaSP and SMP partnership.<\/p>\n

According to Phoya, there is, among others, a project assisting primary school pupils to read properly, construction of a dental school at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, a water and sanitation project in Zomba, Machinga and Mangochi where Water Aid is drilling boreholes more especially in ECD centres and building toilets, among other facilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, Nkhoma Hospital received money to coordinate the implementation of a cervical cancer screening and treatment project across hospitals in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cMoney also went to Marry Meals which is providing meals to under-five children in primary schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is also a renewable energy project being implemented by a local NGO in partnership with a Scottish NGO. They are providing solar electricity to rural households, with Mchinji District as an example,\u201d Phoya said.<\/p>\n
