Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The Number of deaths caused by Tropical Cyclone Freddy has risen to 225 from 190, the Department of Disaster and Management Affairs (Dodma) has disclosed. In its third update on Wednesday afternoon, Dodma says 707 people are injured while 41 are still missing.<\/p>\n

Currently Dodma has received rapid assessment reports from 12 affected councils namely; Blantyre City, Blantyre District, Chikwawa, Chiradzulu, Machinga, Mulanje, Neno, Nsanje, Phalombe, Thyolo, Zomba City and Zomba District.<\/p>\n

\u201cCumulatively, TCF-induced flooding, strong winds and mudslides have displaced over 19,676 households (approximately 88,312 people) with 165 camps set to accommodate the displaced,\u201d reads part of the update.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday morning visited areas affected by Cyclone Freddy in Blantyre. The areas are Chilobwe, Naotcha, Manja, Manje, Nyambadwe and Ndirande.<\/p>\n

According to a programme signed by Secretary to President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, it is anticipated that President Chakwera will remain in the Southern Region for the foreseeable future to lead government activities in response to the cyclone effects. Former president Peter Mutharika was also expected to cheer the victims in Blantyre on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
