Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The High Court in Zomba has dismissed an application by the Attorney General\u2019s office to quash a judicial review of a case restraining Rastafarian children from wearing dreadlocks in school.<\/p>\n

Judge Zione Ntaba questioned the wisdom of the Attorney General (AG) office under the leadership of Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda by bringing an objection at a very late stage.<\/p>\n

Ntaba said she was shocked that the AG\u2019s office could be careless with cases human rights, primarily when the claimants are children. \u201cThe Attorney General\u2019s office should understand its mandate. The way it is approaching this matter leaves a lot to be desired.\u201d Charged Ntaba.<\/p>\n

An interlocutory injunction was granted by Judge Ntaba restraining government from stopping dreadlocked students in 2020. The case which commenced in 2017 is being supported by Center for Human Rights and Assistance, Women Lawyers Association and Southern Region Litigation Center.<\/p>\n
