Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>High Court Judge Redson Kapindu on Monday, July 3, 2023, set August 1, this year as the date when vice president Saulos Chilima will take a plea on allegations that he received bribes to influence awarding of public contracts.<\/p>\n

Justice Redson Kapindu has also ordered the state to provide disclosures of all relevant material within seven days before plea taking.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the court adjourned the matter to July 19, for plea taking but the state prayed that it be given 21 days to prepare disclosures which are required to be served on the defense before a plea is taken.<\/p>\n

But ACB prosecutor Chrispine Khunga asked the court to give them 21 days to make disclosures arguing seven days is not enough for disclosures most of which are digital.<\/p>\n

However, Chilima will be in court on July 19, 2023, where he is expected to file an application to waive his bail conditions.<\/p>\n
