{"id":47638,"date":"2023-08-17T21:25:04","date_gmt":"2023-08-17T21:25:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/parliament-confirms-thomas-makiwa-as-auditor-general"},"modified":"2023-08-17T21:33:54","modified_gmt":"2023-08-17T21:33:54","slug":"parliament-confirms-thomas-makiwa-as-auditor-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/parliament-confirms-thomas-makiwa-as-auditor-general","title":{"rendered":"Parliament confirms Thomas Makiwa as Auditor General"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Malawi Parliament on Wednesday confirmed the name of Thomas Makiwa on position of auditor general following his appointment by President Lazarus Chakwera.<\/p>\n<p>Makiwa who has been on the position for 5 years on acting capacity was confirmed with all the members from both sides in support of his appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the members of the press after confirmation, Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda said his professionalism and impartiality attracted the president to appoint him as auditor general.<\/p>\n<p>He said the appointment and confirmation will strengthen governance institutions and fill the gap that has been there for the past five years.<\/p>\n<p>Chimwendo further added that people in the country should take this appointment as the example that Chakwera administration is not nepotistic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Chakwera has really shown that the appointment is based on merit not where someone comes from as he appointed Makiwa who comes from Balaka,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He encouraged public servants to work hard so that they maybe appointed in other positions.<\/p>\n<p>Chairperson for Public Appointment Committee of Parliament Joyce Chitsulo described it as very good development.<\/p>\n<p>She said this will close the gap that has been there and improve delivery of service by the office.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Makiwa comes from Suga village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalembo in Balaka district.<\/p>\n<p>He is a holder of Master of Science in Finance and has worked for 22 years in a public service.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\">Malawi<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi.
