Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Machinga Police Officer ln Charge, Senior Assistant Commissioner, Jane Mandala has urged Community Policing Forum under Traditional Authority Mizinga to work closely with traditional leaders to ensure the area is crime free.<\/p>\n

Senior Assistant Commissioner Mandala made the call at Traditional Authority Mizinga headquarters during an interface meeting with members of the Community Policing Forum and traditional leaders under Mizinga.<\/p>\n

She said meaningful fight against crime can only be achieved if Community Policing Forum work with traditional leaders. The Officer ln Charge made an assurance that she will ensure construction of a police unit at Mbanila in the area of Traditional Authority Mizinga to ensure police vicinity.<\/p>\n

Senior Assistant Commissioner. Mandala therefore called on Mizinga Community Policing Forum, Traditional leaders and community level development committees to collaborate to ensure that the police unit is constructed without delays and hiccups.<\/p>\n

She also pledged that her office will ensure that the Mizinga Community Policing Forum is provided with necessary equipment such as reflector jackets, torches and whistles to make it vibrant in fighting crime.<\/p>\n

The Officer In Charge further urged chiefs to make sure they know very well all men that comes to marry in their villages saying the police have noted that some men seek hand I\u2019m marriage with intention to commit crimes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSafety begins with us and lm appealing to local leaders and everyone to work with community level crime prevention structures to fight against crime,\u201d Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mandala added.<\/p>\n

She also cautioned parents and guardians against marrying off under age girls at the expense of their well being and their education. On rail safety, Machinga Police, Officer ln Charge warned communities living near railway line between Liwonde and Nayuchi border against walking in the railway while wearing headphones gadgets<\/p>\n

Traditional Authority Mizinga said Police Unit is necessary in the area in as much as fight against crime is concerned, observing that his area is registering an increase in crime.<\/p>\n

He also called on his subjects to desist from loitering in the rail line and grazing the livestock very closer to the rail line to avoid locomotive accidents.<\/p>\n

Chairperson for Mizinga Community Policing Forum, Richard Kalasa called on members of the forum to work for the good of the community and to avoid mob justice whenever they apprehend a crime suspect.<\/p>\n
