Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Some Malawians in diaspora have embarked on a fundraising initiative where they want to raise \u20ac8,000 (close to K9.8 million) to repatriate the body of a Malawian young man whose body was found floating in a river in Germany.<\/p>\n

George Thawe a Malawian young man in his early 20s was found dead with his body floating in one of the rivers in Germany a week ago. Following the death, Henry Mkumbira Phiri, Chairman of the Malawian Diaspora in Ireland is leading the fundraising initiative which started five days ago.<\/p>\n

The good Samaritan says the amount will cater for transport fares for Thawe\u2019s body. Mkumbira Phiri who described Thawe as a young child full of ambition, and very friendly, said they thought raising funds so that he should be accorded a proper sendoff.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe family is in total disbelief and shock over the tragic death of the young George and imagining how helpless he was at the time of his horrific departure.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing this sudden departure of George, we have resorted as family that we repatriate his body to Malawi, in order to be accorded a proper send off by his family and loved ones,\u201d said Phiri.<\/p>\n

Phiri has then appealed to well wishers to help them with funds for George\u2019s repatriation to Malawi. According to information posted on an online fundraising platform \u2018gofundme\u2019, the group has reaching this far managed to raise \u20ac2,140 which is approximately 2.6 Malawi Kwacha.<\/p>\n
