{"id":55095,"date":"2023-12-23T22:03:24","date_gmt":"2023-12-23T22:03:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/?p=55095"},"modified":"2023-12-23T19:36:13","modified_gmt":"2023-12-23T19:36:13","slug":"mdf-documents-could-jeopardize-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/mdf-documents-could-jeopardize-security","title":{"rendered":"MDF documents could jeopardize security"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The Office of the Attorney General says disclosing Malawi Defence Force (MDF) procurement documents in the vice president Saulos Chilima\u2019s corruption case could jeopardize national security.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice president is accused of allegedly demanding kickbacks from businessman Zuneth Sattar for an award of a contract to supply military equipment to the Malawi Defence Force (MDF).<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"aswift_2_host\"><\/a>One of the lawyers representing Chilima, Bright Theu has told the local media that the documents are a requirement for the defence as they will help once the case commences.<\/p>\n<p>However, ACB\u2019s Deputy Director for Civil Litigation, Neverson Chisiza, has indicated that disclosing the documents at this stage would compromise the state of security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsidering the sensitivity of the documents, MDF cannot tender them due to security concerns,\u201d said Chisiza. Meanwhile, Financial Crimes Court Judge Redson Kapindu has reserved his ruling on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge has asked Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Chilima\u2019s legal team to file submissions before Friday this week.
