Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Concerned football fan George Mussah has come open rebuking the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandu for his fifth bid at the association. The call comes as FAM\u2019s annual general election is scheduled for December this year.<\/p>\n

The concerned football enthusiasts are therefore urging the establishment of an independent body to oversee the entire election process, ensuring transparency and accountability.<\/p>\n

George Mussah, a former executive member of both FAM and Central Region Football Association (CRFA) is chairing the group and made this call during a press briefing on Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Civo Clubhouse.<\/p>\n

Mussah explained that the group\u2019s goal is to promote the growth of the sport in the country, and a key aspect of this is ensuring the smooth and fair conduct of elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a need for thorough preparations, including scrutiny of individuals vying for different positions and the delegates. An independent body should be promptly established to manage the elections, and nominations should be received by this body, not the FAM CEO. FAM should also provide a transparent and accountable budget for the upcoming elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDelegates should not be allowed to bring so-called \u2018bouncers\u2019 who could intimidate others. If such individuals are present, they should be positioned at least 100 meters away from the election premises.<\/p>\n

However, he advised the incumbent FAM President, Walter Nyamilandu, not to seek re-election in December. \u201cAffiliates should recognize their role as representatives of the sports community and choose wisely without being influenced by personal interests. We have had enough of Nyamilandu,\u201d Mussah emphasized.<\/p>\n

Mussah also encouraged aspiring candidates to openly announce their intentions and begin their campaigns. Nyamilandu has been at FAM helm for 19 years.<\/p>\n
