Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>High Court Judge Simeon Mdeza is on December 1 2023 expected to hear a matter in which three Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials are seeking the court\u2019s intervention on whether the party\u2019s leader, Peter Mutharika is fit to continue heading the party or not.<\/p>\n

The three DPP officials namely, Billy Malata, Ken Msonda, and Thomas Joe Nyirongo want the court to help intervene in the ongoing leadership wrangles rocking the former ruling party.<\/p>\n

Among others, the claimants argue Mutharika is no longer fit to continue as party president and should therefore cease to perform any duties. Again, they say he is not eligible to contest as a presidential candidate at the forthcoming National Political Conference.<\/p>\n

The three also want the court to issue an order that an interim DPP president be appointed by the Central Committee from among the members who have shown interest in contesting as presidential candidates.<\/p>\n

Prophet David Mbewe, Joseph Mwanamveka, Bright Msaka, Dalitso Kabambe, Paul Gadama, and Kondwani Nankhumwa are some of the individuals who earlier expressed interest to contest on the party\u2019s presidency.<\/p>\n

Mutharika\u2019s spokesperson Shadric Namalomba is yet to comment on the matter. The opposition DPP has been in a leadership crisis after losing the 2020 Presidential crisis.<\/p>\n
