Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>We are now losing count of the times the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has been firing some of its NEC members, only to be reinstated by either the courts or the party leadership itself.<\/p>\n

In August 2020, DPP fired its Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey, alongside Kondwani Nankhumwa (DPP Vice President South), Treasurer General Jappie Mhango, and MP for Mulanje West Yusuf Nthenda, for proposing a convention to elect new leadership. The main opposition party ended up rescinding its decision.<\/p>\n

In September 2020, DPP fired the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa and replaced him with Francis Kasaila. The court reinstated Nankhumwa.<\/p>\n

Just this year, DPP fired its rabble-rouser Nicholas Dausi, arguing that the MP was guilty of three misconducts contrary to Article 6(1) (v), (vii) and (viii) of the DPP constitution. The court, once again, embarrassed DPP leadership by reinstating Dausi. The main crime Dausi committed was that he was dancing with Malawi Congress Party (MCP )senior members at the rally held in his Constituency.<\/p>\n

Many others have been disciplined in between by the DPP leadership for holding dissenting views. The latest victim is, once again, DPP Secretary General Hon Grezelder Jeffrey, who is said to be guilty of two misconducts, contrary to Section 6(1) and (v) and (vii) of the DPP constitution. As usual, this is likely to be challenged in court.<\/p>\n

The truth is that Grezelder disclosed to journalists at a presser she held in Lilongwe last Friday that she wrote the party\u2019s president twice, informing him about the impending elective conference.<\/p>\n

She also communicated about the impending National Governing Council (NGC) meeting scheduled for December 6 in preparation for the convention as per court order. Sadly, Mutharika, through his spokesperson Hon Shadreck Namalomba, disowned the presser, arguing that the party president wasn\u2019t aware of it.<\/p>\n

The internal war in DPP looks far from over. The leadership has openly failed to put the house in order. Peter Mutharika has proven now to be a failure and he can not again trusted to run the shows of the state. Mutharika is allowing a few misguided individuals to continue dividing the party for personal interests.<\/p>\n

Mutharika must resign and allow young people including Joseph Mwanamveka, Dalitso Kabambe, Bright Msaka, Kondwani Nankhumwa, and others to lead the party for a formidable and strong opposition block ahead of the 2025 Malawi Presidential elections.<\/p>\n
