Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>In a surprising turn of events, the recent meeting organized by the opposition Democratic Progressive Party\u2019s (DPP) Secretary General, Grezelda Jeffrey, unveiled a stark reality regarding the popularity of the Nankhumwa camp.<\/p>\n

Out of the 71 delegates invited, only 23 attended the gathering, leaving many wondering about the future of the faction led by Kondwani Nankhumwa and Grezelda Geoffrey. The meeting, held with the intention of showcasing support for Nankhumwa\u2019s camp, inadvertently shed light on a deep divide within the party.<\/p>\n

The relatively low turnout has sparked speculation that Peter Mutharika, former president of Malawi, could seize the opportunity to call for a National Governing Council, potentially overshadowing Nankhumwa and Geoffrey\u2019s influence.<\/p>\n

Among the senior members present at the meeting were Nicholas Dausi, a prominent figure within the party, Auladi Mussa, who had previously faced legal troubles but was later pardoned, and Cecilia Chazama, a well-known party member.<\/p>\n

Even though key figures from the Nankhumwa camp were in attendance, the underwhelming number of delegates suggests a lack of widespread support. This unexpected outcome has raised questions about the Nankhumwa camp\u2019s ability to rally party members and secure influential backing.<\/p>\n

It appears that despite their efforts to gather support by inviting delegates, their popularity remains questionable, leaving room for speculations surrounding the effectiveness of their leadership.<\/p>\n

As the DPP faces internal divisions, the upcoming National Governing Council that will be called by Peter Mutharika could serve as a turning point in the party\u2019s trajectory.<\/p>\n

Whether or not Mutharika\u2019s potential move will overshadow Nankhumwa and Geoffrey\u2019s camp is yet to be seen, but one thing is certain \u2013 the recent meeting has exposed the cracks within the Nankhumwa camp, casting doubt on their popularity and prospects within the DPP.<\/p>\n

During the poorly patronised and unblessed NGC Meeting, Kondwani Nankhumwa told the members that he intended to grab the DPP party. \u201cI intend to grab the party, haven\u2019t we taken it over now?\u201d asked Nankhumwa.<\/p>\n

One senior member from Nankhumwa camp who opted for anonymity faulted Nankhumwa\u2019s speech and said he had realized that all is being done out of greed and not serving the people.<\/p>\n
