Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>President Lazarus Chakwera has spoken against people who he said are fond of perpetuating divisions in the country. According to Chakwera, such actions and sentiments only hinder development of the nation.<\/p>\n

He made the remarks during a development rally in Mwanza after he launched Mwanza stadium construction project and toured the building of police houses in the district.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis district does not have a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament (MP) but looking at the people who have gathered here, I am delighted because this signifies the love and appreciation of development in your area.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot people like to speak divisions amongst us. Belonging to a particular party does not mean government cannot do development in a particular area. Let us all embrace one another and live as Malawians regardless of which political party we belong to,\u201d he said. Chakwera further pledged more development in the district, arguing developing Mwanza will increase the economic activities of the boarder district.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will task the Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture to make sure that the stadium project is seen to completion in good time. We need to develop this district further because it boarders with other countries and this can increase the revenue of the district. We will make sure we do a lot more; soon you will see me and my Mozambican counterpart coming to open a one-boarder-post,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nicholas Dausi<\/b>Mwanza Central lawmaker Nicholas Dausi said the people of Mwanza are grateful for the development.<\/p>\n

He said the stadium would boost a lot of activities in the district. He also indicated he had no regrets working with the government. \u201cI was hated and eventually booted out of the Democratic Progressive Party because I was working with government. But then if I castigated the President and worked in isolation, the people of Mwanza would have been the ones who would have suffered. So I am grateful for remembering us Your Excellency,\u201d he said. During the rally, former Speaker of Parliament Esther Mcheka Chilenje was officially welcomed in the party.<\/p>\n
