Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has given consent to Ekwendeni Hammers and Kawinga FC to start using new names following their successful proposals to the national football governing body.<\/p>\n

Following the development, Ekwendeni will be known as Mzuzu City Hammers whereas newly promoted side Kawinga have changed to Creck Sporting Club. Fam Club Licencing Manager Casper Jangale Tuesday said the two clubs have been allowed to start using new names after fulfilling Club Licensing requirements on changing club names.<\/p>\n

\u201cMostly when changing a name, a club explains the reasons to receive the licence under the new name. However, it is difficult to change the name when the club has already received a new licence using the old name,\u201d Jangale said. Meanwhile, Hammers General Secretary Benjamin Thole said they opted to change the name having relocated to Mzuzu in terms of the team\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust to remind you, the team relocated from Ekwendeni Township to Mzuzu City in 2019. We have been doing our operations for the past five years in Mzuzu. We hope the change will help our fan base to grow as people from the city will now own the team,\u201d Thole said.<\/p>\n

On his part, Creck General Secretary Rhemo Malunga said they will comply with all Club Licencing requirements. \u201cWe are simply following procedures,\u201d Malunga said.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Fam has disclosed that clubs are expected to submit their club licence report on March 10, with the First Instance Body (FIB) expected to announce the results on March 16. The 2024 season will kick off on March 30.<\/p>\n
