Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The governing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has said it is in talks with various politicians to join it as it seeks to establish a formidable base ahead of the 2025 general elections.<\/p>\n

In response to The Daily Times\u2019 question about whether the party is in talks with people that were recently fired from the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), MCP spokesperson, Ezekiel Ching\u2019oma said the party is in talks with \u201cmany\u201d politicians.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to speculate but we, as a party, are in talks with many people, including those in political parties, but since the discussions are on-going, we would not reveal their identities,\u201d Ching\u2019oma said.<\/p>\n

He added that they have been successful in most of their discussions and that, recently, people have been flocking to the party. Recently, DPP suspended some of its members on disciplinary grounds and went further to dismiss 10 of its members, among them Mwanza Central legislator Nicholas Dausi.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, Dausi attended a development meeting at which President Lazarus Chakwera launched infrastructural development projects in Mwanza District.<\/p>\n

While there, he said when at a crossroads, wise people do not bother looking at where they are going but, rather, look at where they are coming from, prompting some people to speculate that he could be referring to his past relationship with MCP.<\/p>\n

Dausi, an ardent supporter of the MCP before switching to the DPP in 2007, claimed to have been persuaded by the late Bingu wa Mutharika\u2019s style of leadership at the time.<\/p>\n

Dausi has recently fallen apart with the DPP and got fired along with nine others. Speaking to The Daily Times about his next course of action, Daudi said he has a right to remain silent on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a right to remain silent. I choose to do so on this matter,\u201d Dausi said. He added that he spoke highly of the Chakwera administration because it has promised to bring numerous development projects to his constituency.<\/p>\n

\u201cChakwera has promised us a Thambani-Chikwawa road, hospital and secondary school, which are what we have been waiting for. What do you expect me to say?\u201d Dausi said. After being let go from the DPP, Dausi has not said anything about his future plans in politics.<\/p>\n
