Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Malawi Women\u2019s National Football Team superstar Temwa Chawinga has said she expects to face tough competition in the United States of America\u2019s National Women\u2019s Soccer League (NWSL).<\/p>\n

The former Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda striker joined NWSL side Kansas City on a two-and-a-half year contract in January. She is among top African women footballers who have moved to the United States in the just-ended transfer window.<\/p>\n

Zambia\u2019s Rachel Kundananji and reigning African women\u2019s footballer of the year Asisat Oshoala are also in the same league. Kundananji is the world\u2019s most expensive player in women\u2019s football history after joining NWSL side Bay FC for a record fee of $787,600 (about K1.3 billion) from Madrid CF of Spain.<\/p>\n

Temwa said competition will be tough as the league has top players. \u201cThis means we have top players in Africa and teams will keep searching for players from our continent. It also means competition among players will be very stiff. But I believe God will be on my side so that I can score more goals and help my team to win,\u2019\u2019 she told Bola News.com.<\/p>\n

The Malawian will play in the NWSL after making headlines for good reasons, finishing as the overall best striker in the world with 63 goals for club and country in 2023.<\/p>\n

Temwa had a good season in China last year, when she won three golden boot awards besides helping Malawi to win their first ever Cosafa Women\u2019s Championship title after scoring nine goals in South Africa in October last year. She will become the first Malawian female player to play in the NWSL.<\/p>\n

Lovemore Fazili<\/b>Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili said Temwa is capable of replicating her form in the US.<\/p>\n

\u2019\u2019I am sure she will continue from where she left in China. She is a player with all the qualities of a top footballer and nothing will stop her from scoring more goals,\u2019\u2019 Fazili said.<\/p>\n

But as Temwa is expecting stiff competition in the US, her elder sister Tabitha Chawinga is finding life easy in the French Feminine League, where she is leading the scorers\u2019 chart with 13 goals.<\/p>\n

Tabitha, who plays for giants Paris Saint German (PSG), also tops the assists chart with eight this season. This has seen her getting involved in 21 goals for PSG.<\/p>\n
