Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Mia has called for collaboration among stakeholders in the water sector to exchange insights, drive innovations and devise solutions as the country is geared towards achieving 2063 goals.<\/p>\n

Mia made the remarks during the opening of a two-day National Water Conference and Exhibition in Lilongwe under the theme: \u201cLeveraging Water for Peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said the significance of water goes beyond drinking and sanitation. \u201d It anchors economic production, power generation, tourism, keeping a girl child in school as well as social and political stability.\u201d<\/p>\n

The minister added that there is an urgent need for Malawians to unite around protecting and conserving water resources as the frequency and impact of climate change shocks increase.<\/p>\n

Mia said a healthy and well managed water cycle is essential for Malawi\u2019s well being, prosperity as well as the integrity of food and economic production.<\/p>\n

Water Association of Malawi (Wasama) President Francis Munthali said water plays indispensable role in sustaining life, fostering growth and promoting peace.<\/p>\n

He said water in Malawi is not just a necessity but is a lifeline supporting agriculture, health, sanitation and industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite its significance, access to clean water remains a challenge for many Malawians,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

Munthali said many of citizens in the country still lack access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation facilities mainly due to factors exacerbated by climate change, population growth and inadequate infrastructure.<\/p>\n

He therefore called for concerted efforts to invest in innovative technologies, empower communities and uphold the rights of all individuals to access clean and safe water.<\/p>\n

However during the conference, members of the association including water boards showcased their various water initiatives.<\/p>\n
