Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Government says over 600 Malawians are detained in South Africa and deported back to Malawi because they go to the Rainbow nation without proper travel documents and residence permits.<\/p>\n

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson John Kabaghe has confirmed this.<\/p>\n

He said this was worrisome as many Malawians are in South African jails over the issue.<\/p>\n

Kabaghe said 130 Malawians are in Mozambican jails because they were arrested for traveling without official documents.<\/p>\n

Some people say they trek to South Africa to look for greener pastures and escape the rampant poverty in Malawi.<\/p>\n
