Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>President Lazarus Chakwera has urged eligible Malawians to take advantage of the current voter registration exercise before it ends on Sunday, November 3, so that they will be able to cast their votes on September 15, 2025.<\/p>\n

The Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) is conducting voter registration exercises in 14 districts, including Dedza.<\/p>\n

Chakwera, who is also the leader of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), spoke in Dedza Tuesday during whistle-stop tours aimed at sensitising Malawians to the importance of voter registration.<\/p>\n

Among other locations, Chakwera visited Linthipe, Kaphuka Trading Centre, Mayani Trading Centre, Kanyama, Kasumbu, Dedza Market and Bembeke Trading Centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe registration exercise currently underway empowers you to vote in next year\u2019s elections. Let us all go and register so that everyone can exercise their rights next year,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n

Richard Chimwendo Banda<\/b>MCP Secretary-General Richard Chimwendo Banda also emphasised the need for people to register ahead of the general elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose without national identity [ID] cards must go to the National Registration Bureau [NRB] to register so that they will be able to vote next year,\u201d Chimwendo Banda said.<\/p>\n

Speaking earlier at Kaphuka Trading Centre, Member of Parliament (MP) for Dedza Central East, Joshua Malango, implored MCP supporters to register to vote, saying this is the only way the party can secure victory.<\/p>\n

Malango reiterated that attending political rallies is not sufficient if people have not registered to vote.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, MP for Dedza Central Constituency, Ishmael Onani, expressed satisfaction at the large number of people visiting centres to register so that they can vote next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is impressive to see people coming in such large numbers for voter registration. This shows that they understand their rights to vote and are ready to vote next year,\u201d Onani said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, NRB has announced that it will comply with a court order compelling the bureau to ensure that everyone eligible to vote next year obtains a national ID that will allow them to register with the Mec.<\/p>\n
