{"id":64972,"date":"2024-11-14T16:19:33","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T16:19:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/temwa-chawinga-nominated-for-mvp-award"},"modified":"2024-11-14T16:25:23","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T16:25:23","slug":"temwa-chawinga-nominated-for-mvp-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/temwa-chawinga-nominated-for-mvp-award","title":{"rendered":"Temwa Chawinga nominated for MVP award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Malawi Women\u2019s National Football Team striker Temwa Chawinga has been nominated for the National Women\u2019s Super League (NWSL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.<\/p>\n<p>This follows her impressive performance for Kansas City Current in her debut season.<\/p>\n<p>Temwa will compete against Zambian Barbara Banda and Brazilian Marta (both play for Orlando Pride), Trinity Rodman (Washington Spirit) and Sophia Smith of Portland Thorns.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old Malawian has etched her name all over the record books in the US, having won the 2024 NWSL Golden Boot award after scoring 20 goals, the most by a player in a single regular season.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, she scored in eight straight matches and scored against all the teams since the league expanded to over 10 teams.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Temwa led all other finalists with goals from east breaks (five), shooting accuracy, duels (352) and tackles (49). She is the favourite to win the accolade.<\/p>\n<p>Fans have a chance to choose the winner through voting, which closes tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Temwa has appealed to fans on social media to vote for her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVote for Temwa as the best of the best. Rank Temwa on number 1,\u201d she wrote on her Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Kansas will face Pride in the NWSL playoff semi-finals this Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, National Women\u2019s Football Association President Adelaide Migogo was optimistic that Temwa would win the award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has done exceptionally well and she deserves to win it,\u201d Migogo said.<\/p>\n<p>Teammates Vanesa DiBernardo and Lo\u2019eau La Bonta have been nominated for the Midfielder of the Year accolade whereas Claire Hutton has been nominated for Rookie of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p>Kansas Coach Vlatko Andonovski has been nominated for the Coach of the Year accolade.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Malawi Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi.
