Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The Malawi Women\u2019s National Football Team, the Scorchers, has received a big boost after three foreign country-based players joined camp this week ahead of the 2025 delayed Cosafa Women\u2019s Championship.<\/p>\n

The tournament is scheduled for February 18 to March 1 in Polokwane, South Africa.<\/p>\n

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)-based defender Chimwemwe Madise (TP Mazembe), the Zambia-based duo of Chisomo Banda (Konkola Blades Ladies) and Tendai Sani (Zisd) joined camp on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka said Egypt-based striker Vanesa Chikupira would fly straight to South Africa for the tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cTendai, Chisomo and Madise are in camp,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili only included four foreign country-based players in his 32-member provisional squad for the tournament.<\/p>\n

He is expected to release the final squad next week before departure for Polokwane.<\/p>\n

Fazili was not readily available for his latest comment Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Scorchers will start their Group A campaign alongside hosts South Africa at Seshego Stadium on February 18 before facing Lesotho at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium three days later.<\/p>\n

The team will wrap up its group stages campaign against Angola at Seshego on February 24.<\/p>\n

Top teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals, along with the overall best runners-up.<\/p>\n

Malawi will be looking to make amends for the disappointment of the 2024 edition, having failed to defend the cup following a 2-0 loss to Zambia\u2019s Copper Queens.<\/p>\n

The Scorchers went into the 2024 edition as defending champions, having won their maiden title the previous year after beating Zambia 2-1.<\/p>\n

During the 2024 edition, Malawi started their journey with a 4-3 victory over South Africa before registering 8-0 and 3-1 victories over eSwatini and Madagascar.<\/p>\n

Their incredible run saw them finishing top with nine points from three matches.<\/p>\n

Since their international debut at the 2002 Cosafa Women\u2019s Championship, the Scorchers have reached the final twice\u2014in 2021 and 2023.<\/p>\n

In 2021, they lost 1-0 to guest nation Tanzania before their maiden title in 2023.<\/p>\n
