{"id":77382,"date":"2026-04-20T18:19:30","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T18:19:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/government-is-open-to-collaboration-says-mutharika"},"modified":"2026-04-20T18:45:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T18:45:34","slug":"government-is-open-to-collaboration-says-mutharika","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/government-is-open-to-collaboration-says-mutharika","title":{"rendered":"Government is open to collaboration, says Mutharika"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>President Peter Mutharika has welcomed Standard Bank\u2019s commitment to expand investments across Malawi\u2019s key sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Mutharika said he also wants the bank to invest in railways as part of the government\u2019s efforts to transform the infrastructure sector.<\/p>\n<p>Emphasizing a \u2018win-win\u2019 partnership with the private sector, Mutharika said the government wants to see more private sector-led initiatives to drive national development.<\/p>\n<p>He made the remarks Friday at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre during a meeting with the bank\u2019s officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to assure Standard Bank of the government\u2019s support. My administration is keen to provide all the necessary assistance; we are very open to collaboration,\u201d Mutharika said.<\/p>\n<p>He outlined his administration\u2019s priority projects, which include power generation, mining and mineral processing, agro-processing, and transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer, Phillip Madinga, said the bank fully supports Mutharika\u2019s economic recovery plan and is ready to provide support in the earmarked areas of MW2063 blueprint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs your partner in driving Malawi\u2019s growth Standard Bank stands ready\u2014as a financier, advisor, and execution partner\u2014to support Malawi\u2019s economic recovery and to help drive long\u2010term, inclusive growth,\u201d Madinga said.<\/p>\n<p>He said building on its 57-year history in Malawi, Standard Bank is well positioned to help the government achieve its ambitious national development targets despite prevailing global economic and geopolitical uncertainty caused by recent conflict in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>He said the bank is ready to invest in rebuilding roads, boosting climate-smart agriculture and food security, unlocking mining potential and provide support the education and healthcare sectors.<\/p>\n<p>According to Madinga, the bank\u2019s assessment showed that over K4.24 trillion is needed to support the government\u2019s recovery plans in the immediate to medium term.<\/p>\n<p>From this total sum, investments in health and education claim the lion\u2019s share at K2.3 trillion followed by agriculture at K900 billion, infrastructure K665 billion and mining and energy at K352 billion, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese figures underscore the scale of Malawi\u2019s development ambition, and the absolute necessity to mobilise private capital alongside public funding,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the bank has a successful track record of mobilising capital and leading in advisory for national development.<\/p>\n<p>He cited the bank\u2019s recent role as lead financier of the six-lane SKC Highway in Lilongwe, the U$55 million Kapichira Hydro Power Station, facilitation of Nacala rail corridor rehabilitation, and recent progress in mining development agreements (MDAs) as some of the highlights of Standard Bank\u2019s capability as a financial partner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Standard Bank we are well positioned to play this role\u2014through our balance sheet capability, structuring expertise, successful track record and regional and international networks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Malawi<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi.
