Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Facebook has rebranded its name to Meta \u201cto bring the metaverse\u201d of the company\u2019s apps and technologies together \u201cunder one new company brand\u201d. Facebook\u2019s CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced Meta at the company\u2019s 2021 annual Connect conference earlier today in his Founder\u2019s address.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are at the beginning of the next chapter for the internet, and it\u2019s the next chapter for our company too\u201d, said Zuckerberg<\/p>\n

\u201cThe next platform will be even more immersive \u2014 an embodied internet where you\u2019re in the experience, not just looking at it. We call this the metaverse, and it will touch every product we build,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The company saud in a statement that Meta will help to build technologies that can help people \u201cconnect, find communities, and grow businesses\u201d. \u201cWhen Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world.<\/p>\n

Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology\u201d, reads the statement. Facebook has recently come under heavy fire criticism about its privacy policy.<\/p>\n
