Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) executive committee is today expected to make or break the future of local football as it is set to appoint Technical Director and Malawi Women\u2019s National Football Team permanent coach.<\/p>\n

The association is expected to hold its Exco meeting through zoom and top on the agenda is the recruitment of Technical Director and Scorchers coach after interviews were conducted recently.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Exco will also discuss Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) campaign road map and the preparations for Under-17 and U-20 ahead of this year\u2019s Cosafa Youth Championship. Fam Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed the development yesterday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Sub Technical Committee will present reports on the interviews of TD as well as permanent coach for Scorchers. There are also other important issues which the executive will discuss,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Fam technical subcommittee conducted the interviews for the post of TD last week Friday where three of the four short-listed candidates took part. The candidates were from Spain, Romania and Scotland.<\/p>\n

Fam was looking for a highly qualified person, who has the Pro-licence and a degree in sports management. Football consultant Kelvin Moyo said the new TD will take time to have impact on local football.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should not expect the moon and sun instantly because the TD will take time to learn Malawi football,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The new Technical Director is expected to travel with the Malawi National Football Team to Cameroon for Afcon finals slated for January 9 to February 6 next year. Sports analyst George Kaudza-Masina advised Fam to make a right decision in appointing the TD and Scorchers coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a crucial moment for Malawi football. The nation is anxiously waiting. On the Scorchers coach, I prefer a local coach because they have proved their worth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Fam also opted for foreign coach for the Scorchers after conducting the interview two months ago. Only foreign coaches were short-listed for the interviews.<\/p>\n

Co-caretaker coaches McNelbert Kazuwa and Andrew Chikhosi, who guided the team to their first ever Cosafa Cup final, have been earmarked as assistants.<\/p>\n

Malawi lost 1-0 to Tanzania in the Cosafa Cup final before exiting the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers following 4-3 loss to Zambia on aggregate.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Fam exco meeting is also expected to discuss the recruitment of women\u2019s football manager, Afcon resource mobilisation and the new calendar for next football season.<\/p>\n
