Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>TNM Super League side Blue Eagles has finally roped in Eliya Kananji as co-coach after weeks of negotiations. Kananji has signed a one-year performance-based contract after Eagles parted ways with Gerald Phiri Senior last week due to poor performance.<\/p>\n

Kananji, a Caf C coaching licence holder, will be working hand-in-hand with the policemen\u2019s former technical director Christopher Sibale. The cops\u2019 former assistant coach Wilson Chidati is now the technical adviser. Eagles Chairperson Alexander Ngwala said the club will set targets for the new technical panel tomorrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe expect the new coaches to improve the team\u2019s performance. Just like all the 16 Super League teams, we want to win the title as well as trophies every season. We want to meet the coaches and hear from them,\u201d Ngwala said.<\/p>\n

Eagles gave Phiri Senior the target of winning the league title at the time of hiring him early this year. However, Phiri failed to live up to his employers\u2019 expectations as Eagles did not win any silverware in the 2021 season and were almost relegated.<\/p>\n

They only survived the chop in the last game of the season after thumping Mighty Wanderers 3-1. Kananji said he was ready to deliver at Eagles. \u201cAll I am calling for is unity. United we stand, divided we fall. We need to work together as a technical panel, players and officials. This is what will help us to do well. I take my appointment as a new challenge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Eagles settled for Kananji after former Silver Strikers and Malawi National Football Team coach Young Chimodzi Senior turned down an offer for the post. The cops also had TN Stars Coach Joseph Malizani and Karonga United mentor Dan Dzinkambani on their shopping list.<\/p>\n

Kananji is one of the highly rated coaches in domestic football having won the Carlsberg Cup thrice in a row with Blantyre giants Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers.<\/p>\n

He also guided the defunct Blantyre United to position three in the Super League. Kananji also had a stint with Masters Security as an assistant to coach Abasi Makawa.<\/p>\n
