Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Development partners have urged the Malawi Government to invest heavily in community health systems, which they describe as key to meeting Universal Health Coverage goals. Donor community chairperson Rudolf Schwenk said this on Monday at Kapiri in Mchinji District during the launch of National Community Health Day.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnicef [United Nations Children\u2019s Emergency Fund] is fully aware that resources in Malawi are limited. At the same time, this constraint is not a new one and we believe that there is room in the budget for prioritisation of children.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year, we fail to spend all the resources allocated to different sectors. Absorption capacities differ from one ministry and agency to another and this affects the efficiency and effectiveness of implementation. Actions to address this situation\u2014 like improved, evidence-based budget allocations and the reduction of bottlenecks\u2014 could help stakeholders spend all of the committed resources \u2013 without having to increase the allocations in the budget,\u201d Schwenk said.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda called for collaborative efforts to address current challenges. She, however, said the government was committed to the cause of making quality services accessible to all.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is why the government thought of introducing community healthcare services. We still have a lot of work to be done to continue achieving better outcomes,\u201d she said. The event was celebrated under the theme \u2018Let\u2019s Unite to Promote Good Health in Our Community\u2019.<\/p>\n
