Africa-Press – Mali. The Ugandan men’s basketball team, one of Senegal’s opponents in the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament in the African zone, has withdrawn due to financial difficulties.
The Uganda Silverbacks were housed in Pool A along with Senegal, Nigeria and Mali.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the other Pool B team to forfeit. He shared the group with Tunisia, Cameroon and Guinea.
The Senegalese men’s basketball team will play, this Monday in Lagos, against Nigeria, its first match in the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament of the African zone.
Absent from the basketball world cup scheduled for July 25 to September 10 in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, the Lions will have to fight to win the only qualifying place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the end of the Lagos tournament. .
This tournament, which now includes six teams, will be held in Lagos.
The Senegal team will face that of Mali, for its second match, Thursday at 5 p.m. GMT.
The pre-Olympic qualification tournaments concern 38 teams that are not qualified for the World Cup: eight in Africa, eight others on the American continent, eight in Asia, as well as sixteen in Europe.
The winner of each tournament will participate in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments scheduled for July 2024.
