Des gisements sont a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301tude en Espagne, en Chine, en Finlande, au fin fond de l\u2019Atlantique. Et aussi en France, dans les Pyre\u0301ne\u0301es-Atlantiques.<\/p>\n

En coulisses, toutes les grandes compagnies pe\u0301trolie\u0300res se montrent tre\u0300s inte\u0301resse\u0301es. Et, parmi les scientifiques que nous avons interroge\u0301s lors de notre enque\u0302te, certains n\u2019he\u0301sitent plus a\u0300 parler d\u2019un \u201cnouveau pe\u0301trole\u201d. Le nom de cette potentielle manne ? L\u2019hydroge\u0300ne. Mais cela fait longtemps que l\u2019on exploite les qualite\u0301s e\u0301nerge\u0301tiques de l\u2019hydroge\u0300ne ?<\/p>\n

Vous parlez la\u0300 de l\u2019hydroge\u0300ne dit \u201cvert\u201d, \u201cgris\u201d ou \u201cjaune\u201d, qui est aujourd\u2019hui fabrique\u0301 industriellement, au prix d\u2019une grande de\u0301bauche d\u2019e\u0301nergie. Ici, il s\u2019agit de l\u2019hydroge\u0300ne dit \u201cblanc\u201d (ou \u201cnatif\u201d), naturellement pre\u0301sent sous terre. Imaginez qu\u2019a\u0300 la place du pe\u0301trole ou du me\u0301thane, se mettent a\u0300 jaillir du sous-sol d\u2019immenses flots de ce gaz, dont la puissante combustion n\u2019e\u0301met que de l\u2019eau, et qui serait susceptible de propulser vertueusement camions, trains, avions, bateaux. Mais pourquoi personne n\u2019a pris jusqu\u2019ici cette ressource au se\u0301rieux ? Presque personne n\u2019y croyait. Il y a encore quelques anne\u0301es, ce gaz e\u0301tait conside\u0301re\u0301 comme une simple curiosite\u0301 ge\u0301ologique. Mais il y a eu le gisement de Bourake\u0301bougou, au Mali, a\u0300 environ 60 kilome\u0300tres au nord-ouest de Bamako. Un trou profond de 100 m avait e\u0301te\u0301 creuse\u0301 pour trouver de l\u2019eau. Jusqu\u2019a\u0300 ce qu\u2019un technicien allume une cigarette, et que tout explose. Ce puit d\u2019hydroge\u0300ne, quasi pur, a finalement e\u0301te\u0301 exploite\u0301 a\u0300 partir de 2011.<\/p>\n

Depuis, les ge\u0301ologues commencent a\u0300 mieux comprendre comment, et ou\u0300, ce gaz peut s\u2019accumuler dans la crou\u0302te terrestre, dans des quantite\u0301s parfois absolument conside\u0301rables. De plus en plus de chercheurs sont convaincus que l\u2019hydroge\u0300ne blanc sera la prochaine source d\u2019e\u0301nergie majeure, capable de faire pivoter en une de\u0301cennie l\u2019industrie fossile vers cette nouvelle ressource, parfaitement e\u0301colo.
