Africa-Press – Mauritius. A presentation of the renovation process from Youth Centers to Youth Centers in Mauritius was held this afternoon at the Côte D’Or National Sports Complex in the presence of the Minister for Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr.

Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint. The remodeling of the 23 Youth Centers, an initiative of the National Youth Council under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, will last three years.

During Phase I, eight Youth Centers will be renovated, specifically in Floreal, Goodlands, Helvetia, Souillac, Mahebourg, Montagne Blanche, La Cure and Dockers Village.

In his speech, Minister Toussaint recalled that the first Youth Center was opened in Souillac in 1989. He referred to the Government’s vision of transforming these Centers into modern Youth Centers with state-of-the-art infrastructure and new activities.

For this, an amount of 165 million rupees will be disbursed and in a few months the works will begin, he specified. Minister Toussaint underscored that the goal is to support opportunities for young people to develop their physical, social, and cognitive abilities and experience achievement, leadership, enjoyment, friendship, and recognition.

On that occasion, the Director of Youth and Secretary of the National Youth Council, Mr. P. Ajodha, made a presentation on a survey carried out from July to October 2021 to determine how many people go to the Youth Centers. A total of 9,136 respondents were interviewed, of which 96% were between 14 and 35 years old.

The survey revealed that 53% have been to a Youth Center, 46% prefer to go outside office hours and 73% on weekends. 63% of those surveyed go to the Youth Centers to practice sports activities, while 56% do it for leisure and 53% for artistic purposes.

Of that 47% who have never been to a Youth Center, 10% said it was due to lack of time, 14% due to infrastructure/equipment and 16% due to lack of activities.

The survey revealed that the largest number of respondents preferred Facebook (78%) as a means of communication, 61% through Instagram and 27% through newspapers.

Hence the need, said Mr. Ajodha, to renovate the Youth Centers to turn them into a place that meets the needs and aspirations of the country’s youth. Exchange of documents and cultural program

The Institute of Fashion and Design has been chosen to design the new Youth Hubs. In this context, an exchange of documents took place, during the launch event, between the President of the National Youth Council, Mr.

Joseph Ramsamy, and the Director of the Fashion and Design Institute, Ms. Sabrina Iranah-Ramsamy. The presentation was also marked by musical interludes from Teenagers Groups and a cultural performance by the winner of ‘Zenes montre to Talan 2021’, Ms. Sarah Theveneau. These shows were organized in the context of the National Youth Day 2022.
