Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, had a pre-budget consultative meeting with representatives of Women Entrepreneurs/Associations, yesterday afternoon, in Port Louis.
In a statement following the meeting, the President of the Mauritius Women Entrepreneur Cooperative Federation Ltd, Mrs Bindya Mahadev, highlighted that various challenges faced by women entrepreneurs have been discussed with Minister Padayachy.
She observed that the Minister was attentive to her organisation’s requests. She further stated that Government has been providing support and assistance to her organisation and expressed confidence that further assistance will be obtained following the pre-budgetary consultation meeting.
Issues discussed include: the lack of outlets and platform where women entrepreneurs from the Federation can market and sell their products; and more support to be offered to women entrepreneurs so as to enable them to cope with the adverse effects that the COVID-19 pandemic had on their businesses.
A request was made to obtain an outlet in the Urban terminals where women entrepreneurs can sell their products. As for the Director of Gender Links, Mrs Anushka Virasawmy, she underlined that propositions focused, among others, on the availability of electronic bracelets for perpetrators of gender-based violence, and on sensitisation campaigns so as to familiarise the population with the Children Rights Act.
For her part, the Director of the Mauritius Family Planning and Welfare Association, Mrs Vidya B. Charan, underscored that propositions made to the Finance Minister include a defined strategic plan so as to determine how to tackle the aging population issue in Mauritius.
The setting up of a proper place of residence for youth leaving shelters at the age of 18 years old as well as the creation of a Non-Governmental Organisation Academy were also on the agenda.
