Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities in collaboration with the Central Water Authority (CWA) and the Development Bank of Mauritius (DBM) organised, in the Northern region of Mauritius, on Saturday 09 April 2022, the seventh edition of an Outreach Programme on the Water Tank and Pump Grant Scheme.
Residents were thus convened to the Goodlands Farmers Service Centre, Petit Raffray Village Hall and Roche Terre Village Hall to apply for the grant provided to families whose monthly income does not exceed Rs 50,000, for the purchase of a water tank of capacity 400 to 1000 litres and a domestic water pump.
A total of 650 applications were received in the three registration centres. The Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany, and other personalities toured the registration centres on that occasion.
It is recalled that the Outreach Programme on Water Tank and Pump Grant Scheme kicked off on Saturday 12 February 2022 at Quatre Cocos, Mare la Chaux and Bramsthan.
The Programme is being carried out on Saturdays in water stressed areas, that is, where inhabitants face water shortages during drought so that they can apply for the Scheme without having to go to the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities.
The next Outreach Programme is scheduled on Saturday 16 April, 2022 from 09:30 hours to 13 hours at the Farmers Service Centre of Rivière du Rempart, at the village hall of Belle Vue Harel and the Social Welfare Centre of Piton.
The Water Tank Grant Scheme was increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 following the 2019/2020 budget to include the purchase of a domestic water pump, while the eligibility income threshold was extended to Rs 50,000. For families who opt for only a water tank, the grant is limited to a maximum of Rs 5,000.
