Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, received, this afternoon in his office, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to Mauritius, Mr Sakaria Kone.
In a statement following the meeting, Ambassador Kone highlighted that discussions with Minister Ganoo focused on issues of common interest for Mauritius and Côte d’Ivoire.
He underlined that both the Minister and himself agreed on the necessity to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries and to avail of the opportunities offered by each country to learn from one another in various fields.
Ambassador Kone indicated that the South–South cooperation, that is, the exchange of resources, technology, and knowledge between developing countries; as well as the support that Côte d’Ivoire can provide to Mauritius at the level of international organisations, and vice versa, were also on the agenda.
It is recalled that in February 2008, Mr Sakaria Kone joined the African Union as Head of Cabinet of the African Union Special Representative for Somalia, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
In 2013, he decided to serve his country and integrated the Ivorian diplomatic service. From March 2013 to February 2018, he was appointed First Secretary and then Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in South Africa.
Mr Kone was then recalled to Abidjan, where he was appointed Ambassador and became the Chief of Cabinet of the President of the Republic from January 2019 to October 2020.
He was then appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to South Africa and presented his credentials in November 2020.
