Bilateral Relations: Finnish Ambassador to Mauritius meets Minister Ganoo

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador of Finland to Mauritius, with residence in Pretoria, Mrs Raija Anne Lammila, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, this evening, at Newton Tower, in Port-Louis.

In a statement, the Finnish Ambassador qualified her meeting with Minister as very fruitful during which global issues were discussed including the Russia-Ukraine war and its consequence on the world by affecting all countries in the form of price increases.

Governments, she underscored, need to figure out how to overcome this difficult situation. Finland, she stated, is very happy that Mauritius along with a majority of countries has condemned the attack on Ukraine by Russia and voted in that regard at the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting also enabled both Minister Ganoo and the Finnish Ambassador to touch upon bilateral relations between Mauritius and Finland as well as the Chagos Archipelago which is a very important issue for Mauritius.

‘We are both two small countries and Finland is a bit bigger with a 5.5 million population while Mauritius has 1.3 million inhabitants but, nevertheless, we see areas of collaboration in the sectors of the blue economy, maritime security and energy, especially in the fields of green transition and renewable energy’, said Mrs Lammila. Education is another area of collaboration evoked during talks with the Foreign Affairs Minister, she added.
