INTERNET SERVICE FAILURE: MAURITIUS TELECOM VICTIM OF CYBER ATTACK

325

We know more about the internet blackout that paralyzed the country on Monday July 19 for more than four hours. Indeed, Mauritius Telecom’s mobile telephone subscribers have been deprived of the Internet, without much explanation from the management, except for a very brief press release and subsequently an offer of Rs 15 to be forgiven. .

It should be remembered that fixed and mobile internet services, customer service and satellite channels were disrupted in several regions of the country. It was only possible to communicate through calls and SMS.

A very rough start of explanation came from the Minister of ICT, Deepak Balgobin yesterday at the National Assembly. In all likelihood, it is a computer attack from abroad that would have disrupted the Mauritian internet network. This will be confirmed by Girish Guddoye, Chief Technical Officer of MT.

Freedom of expression in Mauritius: the dangerous drift of the ICTA

Preliminary investigation indicates that the source of the attacks is multiple. Here is to worry more than one whereas a certain Dick Ng Sui Wa, the “temporary” president of the Icta, wishes more power to investigate the abuses and misuse of social networks with a consultation paper in order to put set up a legal framework by partitioning traffic entering and leaving the Internet in Mauritius, to a proxy server.
