Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mauritius is exemplary in Customs among the eastern and southern African countries and those states have a lot to learn from Mauritius in terms of digitalisation and connectivity, said the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Dr.

Kunio Mikuriya, in a statement following a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, this evening, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

Mauritius hosting the 28th WCO Eastern and Southern Africa Governing Council Meeting is clear testimony to the improved and advanced services provided by the country, he stated. According to Dr.

Mikuriya, discussions with the Prime Minister were very productive and also focused on how to make the country and the Customs Department more competitive following the progress achieved by the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) so far.

He took the opportunity to hail Prime Minister’s Junauth political will to support the development of MRA as well as leverage on new technologies to strengthen the Customs Department’s human and technical capabilities.

Issues with regard to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war on the world and the customs departments as well as the need to come up with practical solutions to avoid major disruptions in the supply chain were also addressed during his meeting with Prime Minister.
