Africa-Press – Mauritius. Five books penned by local authors were launched, yesterday, at the Municipal Council of Port-Louis. The event was organised by the President’s Fund for Creative Writing. The following books were launched: ‘Dreams to Reality’ by Mrs P.
Subrun; ‘I Am Silly’ by Mr Tirkissoon Domun, ‘Un arc-en-ciel en quête d’arcs-boutants’ by Mr Manoj Chowa, ‘Updesh Amrit’ by Mr Jayapatee Poonit, and ‘Poesies’ by Mr Ismet Ganti.
The Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, and the Lord Mayor of Port Louis, Mr Mahfooz Moussa Cadersaib, were present on the occasion.
In his address, Minister Teeluck underlined that each book launch is a special event as he is conscious of all the hard work, efforts, and commitment that the authors put in.
The Minister further pointed out that the Ministry recognises the struggles that artists have to undergo and underlined that various schemes have been elaborated to support them in their endeavours.
The National Arts Fund for instance, he said, has enabled many artists to produce various forms of arts in various disciplines and to materialise their projects.
On that score, Mr Avinash Teeluck lauded the efforts of the President’s Fund for Creative Writing in supporting the creative industry and renewed his intent to continue to strive to enhance the Ministry’s service to the community of artists.
We will serve all of you to the best of our abilities and as per the resources available at hand, he stressed. As regards authors, Mr Teeluck reassured that the Ministry will soon set up a committee to examine the difficulties they face in both conceiving and disseminating their art.
He concluded by emphasising that the efforts of producing arts have value and asserted that the Ministry respects that value and will provide them with its unflinching support.
