Africa-Press – Mauritius. A Battle of the Barmen competition was organised, today, at the MITD Ecole Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval in Rose-Hill to mark the World International Cocktail Day, observed annually on 13 May.

The event, an initiative of the MITD Ecole Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval in collaboration with the Tourism Employees Welfare Fund, aimed at valorising the works of bartenders in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

In a statement, the acting Training Centre Manager of the MITD Ecole Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval, Mr Karmaraj Nosib, indicated that some 33 professionals including two women having a good knowledge of bar service in hotels and restaurants participated in the competition.

This initiative, he said, will enable them to come up with fresh ideas and new approaches in line with sustainability and innovation. He lauded the contribution of some 30,000 employees in the tourism and hospitality sectors who, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, are working hard to satisfy clients and meet their expectations.

As regards the competition, Mr Noshib stated that several industry professionals have been invited as jury members to evaluate the participants on the techniques used for cocktail creation, taste, presentation and the use of locally available ingredients.
