SADCOPAC delegation visits the National Audit Office

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Southern African Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (SADCOPAC) Peer Review Program and Training for Members of Public Accounts Committees and officials supporting the Committee was held in Mauritius on 26 and 27 May 2022 at the Caudan Arts in Port-Louis.

The Secretary General of the SADCOPAC and Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament of Botswana, Mr. Dithapelo Lefoko Keorapetse, led a delegation to Mauritius to that effect.

The members of the delegation met the Deputy Director of Audit, of the National Audit Office (NAO) Mr Khemraj Reetun, on Wednesday 25 May 2022. The delegation also met the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Mohammud Zahid Nazurally, on the same day, in Port-Louis.

In his address on the occasion, Mr Khemraj Reetun, emphasised that the vision of the NAO is to be recognised as a highly respected professional organisation providing high quality audit services geared towards transparency, accountability and good governance.

He also elaborated on the mission of the NAO which is to promote good governance in the public sector with the delivery of high-quality services and provide independence assurance to the National Assembly on the proper accounting and use of public resources.

High level of professionalism AND confidentiality are our motto and these values are reflected in our reports, he stated. As for Mr. Dithapelo Keorapetse, he said that this important exercise seeks to bring the member states together to exchange knowledge, expertise and learn from each other’s experiences.

He expressed hope that this endeavor will be a fruitful engagement and contribute to capacity-building. The Peer Review mission aimed at discussing the roles and objectives of the SADCOPAC and the progress on the implementation of its conference resolutions and Good Practice Guide.

It further aimed at empowering Members of member states to effectively carry out their oversight functions over public finances as well promoting good governance in the region.

The Program was targeted for Members of the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly and the Rodrigues Regional Assembly and staff supporting the Committee.
