Maintaining the expansion of the ICT sector

Africa-Press – Mauritius. In his Budget address, the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, highlighted that the ICT sector was one of the few sectors which registered a positive growth rate in the last two years despite the COVID-19 pandemic, boasting renewed dynamism with major multinational companies relocating to Mauritius, and creating job opportunities.
In this context, the Finance Minister proposed a series of measures to uphold the sector, among which is the provision of training, by the Digital Industries Academy (DIA), to 1,000 individuals in Data Communications, 5G, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Cyber-Security as from July 2022.

Moreover, the Digital Industries Academy will set-up a DIA Incubator for high-end ICT product development. Consequently, it will partner with telco providers, banks and international players to provide mentoring and financing to 50 incubatees.
In addition, a five-year blueprint will be devised with a view to maintaining a continuous dynamism and expansion of the sector. Ensuring access to government e-services The Finance Minister also announced that Rs 15 million will be earmarked for a second connection for the Government Online Centre to ensure continuous access to government e-services.

Furthermore, a number of services will be offered online to continue the public service digitalisation strategy. These services include application for Certificate of Character; payment of road traffic fines; and application for social benefits.
