Minister Gobin meets DG of FAO at the Second National Conference on Development Cooperation

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Attorney General, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin, had a meeting in Italy with Mr Qu Dongyu, Director-General (DG) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in presence of Mrs Maria Helena Semedo, Deputy Director-General and other high officials of FAO.
The Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr. Maneesh Gobin, is attending the Second National Conference on Development Cooperation which is being held in Rome, at the Auditorium della Conciliazione from 23 to 24 June, 2022.
Minister Gobin seized the opportunity to thank Mr. Qu Dongyu for the long standing partnership with Mauritius, mostly for the technical assistance on the ongoing Tea Sector Strategic Plan.
He has also requested the DG of FAO to explore the possibility of helping Mauritius to avail of services of veterinarians under South-South Cooperation from neighbouring countries possibly Zimbabwe or Madagascar.

The Agriculture Minister also drew the attention of the DG to the concerns on food waste in the world. The recent UNEP 2021 report on Food Waste indeed gives cause for concern, underlined Minister Gobin.
He shared the recent initiative in Mauritius on food waste reduction programme with the private sector namely the hospitality industry. Should the FAO agree on a global campaign, Mauritius will be willing to champion the advocacy campaign, underscored Minister Gobin. Minister Gobin also a had bilateral meeting with Assistant Executive Director, Mrs Valerie Guarnieri, of the World Food Programme
