Minister Ganoo meets new Adviser and Manager of Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Adviser and Manager of the Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub (CCFAH), Dr Oduetse Oldman Koboto, met, yesterday, with the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, at his office in Port Louis.
The CCFAH endeavours at facilitating improved access by small and vulnerable countries to climate finance to meet their priority needs in securing sustainable development.
According to CCFAH, its purpose in Mauritius is to aid the country to increase access to Climate Finance at the national level through the development of a pipeline of project proposals targeting relevant climate finance funding envelopes and supported by improved cross-ministerial coordination of efforts to operationalise the national climate change frameworks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade is the host and point of contact of the CCFAH. In a statement following the meeting, the CCFAH Manager and Adviser affirmed that while he was satisfied with the collaboration between the Government of Mauritius and the Hub, discussions also focused on the way forward to enhance the relationship.

Dr Koboto underlined that talks covered the developmental challenges facing the international community such as climate change and lack of climate finance regarding adaptation and mitigation measures of greenhouse gases, as well as potential projects that Mauritius could undertake to achieve its targets set under the Nationally Determined Contribution.

The outcomes of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2022, held in June 2022, in Rwanda, regarding health, education and climate change were also at the forefront of the meeting.

“We are planning together with the Government of Mauritius to host an event on 04 August 2022 which would bring together the international community and the senior leadership from the Commonwealth to unpack the outcomes of CHOGM and look at the methods in implementing modalities of these outcomes,” said Dr Koboto.

Furthermore, the Foreign Affairs Minister and the CCFAH Manager and Adviser spoke about enhancing the visibility of Mauritius in the international community development agenda by strategically placing the country as a leader in international dialogue, especially through the hosting of international organisations and events/workshops.

Prior to his appointment at CCFAH, Dr Oduetse Oldman Koboto was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism in the Republic of Botswana.
Before joining the Ministry, he worked as the Head of Environment and Climate Change in the United Nations Development Programme Botswana Country Office, and earlier as the Director of Wildlife and National Parks, responsible for the conservation agenda in Botswana. Dr Koboto has a Master’s and Doctor’s Degrees in Environmental Law.
